It was a great weekend all around college baseball, with lots of upsets and lots of good white-knuckle finishes. So here’s a few images from this past weekend in this great sport of ours. Enjoy…
.

What would a college baseball game be without a hotly-contested dizzy bat race where the two combatants collide with each other at the start?
.

Are these hideous togs any way to honor the brave men and women in our military on Military Day? Virginia Tech trotted out in these stomach-turners on Saturday against Wake Forest.
.

UC Irvine coach Mike Gillespie hoists this young Yankee fan, who is the son of former assistant Andy Nieto.
.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of college baseball. Irvine’s Cory Olson sports some cool specs during games.
.

While waiting to talk with Coach Gillespie after the game, Tony Asaro made sure to let me know he was the best interview and the most photogenic Anteater of them all. So here you go. Here’s a picture for you to decide if you agree with him.
.

Bryan Marquez leads the nation in home runs with 16 so far. He is part of a potent New Mexico State batting order, which leads the nation with 72 dingers. The Aggies are currently 28-4.
.

Long Beach is one of the last bastions in college baseball that sells beer at games. And they even go one step further at Blair Field by having an attractive beer girl deliver it for you.
.

The legendary Elvis Joe entertains people between innings, this time with his rendition of “Tequila” replete with an ornamental sombrero. And no, that’s not a bottle of tequila he’s hoisting here, it’s actually a trumpet.
.

Long Beach State fans remind us all of their knack for producing numerous MLB players over the years. Depending on how you look at it, that could be a good or bad thing.
.

All eyes up! Neil Medchill hits one of three Oklahoma State home runs vs. Texas on Sunday. But the Longhorns got the revenge in the end, winning the game 8-5 and the series 2-1.
.

That masked man you see here is actually UT head coach Augie Garrido. The temperature in Stillwater on Sunday was 40 degrees with winds from the Northwest making for a 29-degree wind chill.
.

… by contrast, the temperature in Long Beach on Sunday was 75 degrees. Well, actually it was 74 degrees with the wind chill factor.
.

Just thought I’d tell you guys that God’s roommate Riley Cooper – a wide receiver on the football team – pinch ran for the Gators on Saturday vs. Vanderbilt. Oh, I meant to say he is Tim Tebow’s roommate.
.

Vandy coach Tim Corbin sports some big arms and a curiously fretful expression. Doesn’t he realize his team is on the verge of taking two of three from Florida?
.

In the words of Warren Zevon, excitable boy they all say. Cincy’s Nick Rohlfs screams for vengeance after slicing a two-run double down the line to give the BearCats a 10-8 win over Louisville.
.

This picture of a Virginia Tech outfielder was taken just after he had lost a fly ball in the sun. Note the location of his sunglasses.
.

This young fan is ready for anything in the stands, ain’t he? The Mad Max of college baseball.
.

After Sunday’s getaway game, LSU coach Paul Mainieri is interviewed by SEbaseball’s Mark Etheridge and Kendall Rogers. For some reason, Mark and Kendall don’t have their pictures on their sites, so I thought I’d post one here.
.

Hey, I never said college baseball is the most exciting sport in the world.

8 bucks, I believe. But I always climb under the fence down the right field line when no one’s looking. Now if only I could figure a way to get the beers free too.
