This is actually day two of the weekend, if you will. But it turns out that not many of the games got played anyway, thankyaveramuch damn Weather Man.
The headlines will scream that today was the day of the no-hitter. We saw two of them today on the college baseball landscape. And ’tis true.

Ty Lockwood was one of four TCU pitchers to help toss a no-hitter today.
But the dark side tells us that it was also the day of the blown save and bumbled defense. You’ll see a little bit of all that in today’s Three-Up/Three-Down.
Let’s start with the two no-hitters
.
THREE UP.
The best in college baseball today.
1- Brad Stillings, Kent State pitcher.
Threw a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Toledo.
The strapping righty became the 9th pitcher in program history to record a no-hitter for the Flashes. In all, he struck out eight Rocket hitters, gave up no walks and was a second-inning error away from a perfect game. Stillings also improved to 5-0 on the season.
With the win, Kent State improved to
2- TCU pitchers.
Four Horned Frogs combined for a no-hitter at UT-Pan American.
Walker Kelly, Taylor Cragin, Tyler Lockwood and Eric Marshall were the four Frog pitchers that held the Broncos scoreless, leading to a 3-0 win in Edinburg tonight. Kelly started the game and went 4.0 innings, striking out four and walking two. Lockwood and Marshall put them three-up, three-down in the last three innings. It was only the third nine-inning no-hitters
3- Florida State’s Friday nights of work.
With tonight’s 3-2 comeback win over North Carolina, FSU improves to 5-1 in ACC lid-lifters.
The Seminoles are big on Fridays. Tonight, when all looked lost, the Noles scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th, tying the game off of All American ace Alex White on a James Ramsey RBI single, then winning it off of Colin Bates’ only pitch of the game, a Rafael Lopez RBI sac fly. FSU has now beaten No. 5 Miami and No. 2 UNC on consecutive weekend openers. Question is… will they fold the tents like they did last week in the final two games of the series?
.
- Honorable Mention:
The Big 10 Pitchers.
* Alex Wimmers, Ohio State.
I know this is getting old, but Wimmers put together another solid outing, going the distance while giving up just two hits and striking out 11.
* Chauncy Handran and Scott Matyas, Minnesota.
The Gopher starter improved to a stellar 6-1 with 7.2 innings of 7-hit, 2-run ball. Then, the reliever Matyas came into the game in the 8th inning and struck out all four Wildcat batters he faced.
*Chris Fetter, Michigan
The big kahuna of the Wolverine staff struck out a career high 13 batters in a complete game 4-2 win over Illinois.

When Chris Fetter is on the mound, Michigan becomes one of the best teams in the nation. But beyond him?...
- Honorable Mention II:
* Matt Hightower, Western Kentucky pitcher.
In a dominating 13-1 win over New Orleans, the Hilltopper ace K’d 13 Privateers and gave up just five hits in a complete game effort. Hightower improved to 5-0 with the win.
- Honorable Mention III:
The nation’s wins leader.
A.J. Morris deserves some kind of mention here. The Kansas State ace wasn’t at his best, but beating No. 15 Texas A&M improved his mark to 9-0. The Cats lost game one of the DH, but used Morris’ performance to pull out a 6-4 win and split the two games. Morris had nine Ks on the day and once again didn’t walk a single Aggie batter.
- Honorable Mention IV:
Delaware’s Ryan Cuneo.
The Blue Hen basher smashed three yard calls and contributed six RBI to UD’s resounding 27-2 win over Hofstra. Yes, I’d call that resounding. In all, Delaware pounded out 30 hits against the hapless Pride, including six home runs. The Hens batted around three times in the game and improve to 20-11 and 6-4 in Colonial play.
.
THREE DOWN.
The down side of things.
1- Weather… again.
Seems like this year has been pretty awful weather-wise. But Mother Nature has given us a little bit of a reprieve in the last few weeks. Today it was time for revenge by that wicked witch. A grand total of 34 games around the country were affected by rain, causing mass amounts of rescheduling and moving games around on this Easter weekend.
2- Imploding Bullpens.
Namely Alabama’s and East Carolina’s.
These two teams needed to get these Friday night wins over No. 3 LSU and No. 7 Rice, respectively, especially with big late leads. But they buckled.
* Alabama took a 5-2 lead into the 8th inning and a 5-4 lead into the 9th against the Tigers. But after starter Austin Hyatt left the game, so did their quality pitching (and some shoddy defense arrived as well). The relievers gave up four runs in the Tigers’ final at-bat. The game would’ve ended in a 5-4 Tide win, but a corkscrew grounder to SS Josh Rutledge was kicked, allowing Mikie Mahtook to make it to first, starting the rally.
* ECU raced out to a 7-zip lead after one inning and had an 11-4 lead after five. But the Owls pounded the Pirate pen for four runs in the 6th, one in the 7th, three in the 8th and three in the 9th. Ouch. Bailey Daniels and Seth Simmons combined to allow eight hits and seven runs in 3.0 innings of work.
3- Those No. 1 Razorbacks I haven’t been giving enough credit to.
Lost 9-0 at home to Vanderbilt.
I know, I’ve been told. You Arkansas fans that said I didn’t give the UofA enough credit/love for that two-game sweep vs. Arizona State… well, you’re right. But you’re also wrong. Unlike their sense of purpose vs. ASU, tonight, the Razorbacks played like they’d already accomplished their season-long goal or something. Mike Minor had a lot to do with that, putting the blockade clamps on the Hog offense, holding them to just four hits and striking out 11 in 8.0 innings.
It wouldn’t have been so bad, but Friday ace Dallas Keuchel gave up – gulp! – 10 hits in 3.1 innings of work. It was pretty ugly. But I’m tellin’ ya’, don’t worry, there’ll be better days. Especially when the Hogs forget all about that wicked-good sweep of the Devils and get back to the matters at hand.
.
Dishonorable Mention:
* The decision-making suits at Sports South.
Why televise the Mississippi State-Tennessee series?
Look, I appreciate any network that puts college baseball on its broadcast schedule, especially those Friday games that get televised. But here is why college baseball schedules shouldn’t be decided upon well-before the season has even started. The two teams that are in dead last place in their respective divisions of the SEC get face-time on the network? C’mon guys, ANY of the other five SEC matchups would’ve been better that this dog.

Is Tyler Whitney pissed because he didn't have his best game or because the Bulldog coaches kept him on the mound for 149 pitches in the game?
- Dishonorable Mention II:
* Temple.
The Owls entered the day at the top of the Atlantic 10 standings and dropped a pair of games to perennial doormat St. Joseph’s, 9-4 and 11-6.
.
A Special Welcome To The Season to Mr. Milo.
It has taken a while, but finally, one of the best players in the country will take the field in his familiar outfield position.

Vermont's Justin Milo scored a goal in the Catamount's 5-4 loss to Boston U. in the Frozen Four on Thursday, but now will drop his stick and pick up a bat.
Justin Milo, a former Freshman All American on the diamond will finally be able to come out and play our game. The problem has been that the talented hockey forward on the Vermont hockey team has been helping to take the Catamounts make it to their first Frozen Four in 20 years. Because of their magical run (they started the tournament as a 4-seed, the lowest seed in the brackets), Milo hasn’t been able to lace of the cleats, but should do so this week.
.
Enough baseball talk. I’ve gotta hit the hay.
G’night

C Marling says:
Stillings was one error and one hit batsman away from a perfect game. He hit a batter in the 6th inning. Nevertheless, his outing was quite impressive. Better management by Toledo and this would have no doubt been an extra inning ballgame. Kudos to Toledo’s Jutin Collop for his 3 hit outing as well.

Well it appears FSU and texas have righted the ship a bit. FSU has been solid last few weekends in the ACC and Texas is beginning to look like its old dominate self in the Big 12. OU pitching did get a 6-0 shut out over Texas Tech and in all honesty this was Mr. Doyle’s best pitching performance of the season, which is on the heels of a very good performance last weekend against Mizzou! I do not totally understand the formula for the ERA in baseball but I do understand if you do not let an opponent score it helps it. Hopefully OU will have a few more perfromances like Friday and they can actually lower their league leading ERA.

I forgot to mention Anthony Kim’s great round at the Master’s on Friday as well……..it was a good day to be an OU fan!

Hmmm, Great point Marling. Sometimes we get so caught up in the victor, we forget the hard-luck loser of the game that had a great outing. Thanks for bringing up Collop’s effort.
Stitch-head says:
Great points Bulldog. I agree. Though FSU is still a mystery to me. Roller-coaster arms. Lots of youth’ll do that.
Stitch-head says:
Ooh, 10 points off for even mentioning golf. Ew.
